May 18, 2013: Northern Lights above Centre 2000

Aurora Borealis was dancing in the summer night sky directly above the city of Grande Prairie just past the midnight on May 18 Victoria Day long weekend. A CME hit Earth’s magnetic field, and the impact was enough to spark a G1-class geomagnetic storm. I find it very tough to stay late to see northern lights in summer, since the sun doesn’t completely set till around midnight. The aurora last more than 3 hours past midnight; it was a good show.
