May 5, 2012: Teens posed in front of Giant Beaver Sculpture at Beaverlodge during supermoon of the year.
Super Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons. The scientific term for the Super Moon is Perigee Moon. Due to the elliptical orbit of the moon, Perigee Moon
is 50,000km closer to the Earth than Apogee Moon.
Another celestial event of the year is Blue Moon on August 31, 2012 at 7:59am to be exact! :D
May 5, 2012: Super Full Moon at Beaverlodge, Alberta. I was trying to take photos of a full moon with the Giant Beaver at 9:45pm, and all of a sudden a group of teenagers showed up and jumped into my picture frame. The giant beaver is a roadside attraction along Highway 43 in the town of Beaverlodge, Alberta. You won't miss it while driving through the town.
Because its orbit is not perfectly circular, the moon is sometimes closer than at other times. Perigee is the term for when the moon is closest to the Earth. When full moon coincides with perigee, it's time for...supermoon!
