Mount Robson Provincial Park in Summer

Mount Robson Provincial Park, the second oldest park in British Columbia, is truly one of the world’s crown jewels. At 3,954 meters above sea level, Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, towers over the lesser surrounding peaks, with Alberta’s Jasper National Park as its easterly neighbour. Designated as a part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990, Mt Robson offers spectacular scenic hiking trails and campsites with the finest views in the Rocky Mountains, winter or summer. Picturesque waterfalls, blue glaciers, pristine lakes, and lush valleys endow this north continental range of Canadian Rockies.

Kinney Lake – Berg Lake Trail

The Kinney Lake hiking trail is the first 4.5km of Berg Lake Trail. The hike takes about 2.5hr return. Picnic areas are available at Berg Lake Trailhead parking lot and at Kinney Lake (km 4.5). Mountain biking is allowed on the first 7km of Berg Lake Trail up to the first campsite located at the north shore of Kinney Lake.

This was my first time hiking on Berg Lake Trail. I hiked the first 7km up to the first campsite. My knees were sored for several days afterwards, because I was in a hurry and ran down the trail while returning to trailhead parking lot. :(

Activities in Mt Robson Park include camping, canoeing, cave exploration, climbing, cycling, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, picnic, skiing, snowshoeing, swimming, and wildlife viewing.

Horseshoe Lake

This lake located next to Icefields Parkway is characterized by an amazing turquoise colour with calm reflection of rock slabs along the lake shore. It offers such activities as scuba diving, fishing, swimming, and cliff jumping. Hiking trail around the lake is 1km loop, easy flat short hike.

I passed by this lake a few times without stopping by, thinking that it’s probably just a lake shaped like a horseshoe. I was right, but there is more to it!! One night while staying at Sunwapta Falls Rocky Mountain Lodge (formerly Sunwapta Falls Resort), I heard about this amazing lake, so I decided to take a peek. Definitely it’s a very nice lake, very picturesque for the entire loop of hike. The trail is pretty short and easy, beginner level.
