Alberta Northern Lights in Spirit River County

A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth’s magnetic field on January 22, 2012 (Chinese New Year’s Eve), resulting in glowing auroras dancing over the County of Spirit River.

The following photos were taken nearby the village Rycroft, located 7 km east of Spirit River and 68 km north of the city of Grande Prairie.

January 22, 2012: Northern Lights display on Chinese New Year's Eve around 8pm at Herman Flad World Champion Chuckwagon Driver Memorial Site. The green aurora made the atmosphere kinda spooky?!?! ò.ó Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year! :D

Chinese New Year Northern Lights

A large sparkling green dragon finally appears in the evnening of Chinese New Year’s Eve to welcome the arrival of the Year of Dragon. :D Happy Chinese New Year!!

According to the lunar calendar, Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year, Spring Festival, or the first day of spring) falls on Monday, January 23 in 2012.
