Review: Fairy Falls Hiking Trail
Fairy Falls Trail is the continuation of Wahkeena Falls Trail. Starting from the trailhead (Wahkeena Falls parking lot), you will see Wahkeena Falls at 0.4 mile mark. The trail then gains considerable elevation and reaches Lemmons Viewpoint at 0.9 mile mark. Take a break here after the strenuous, steep hike. The trail continues to gain elevation and reaches Fairy Falls at 1.2 mile mark. There are a lot of small waterfalls with moss-covered rocks between Lemmons Viewpoint and Fairy Falls. This section is very scenic and great for photography: rustic log bridges, wild flowers, moss-covered rocks, small waterfalls, etc. Do not, under any circumstance, forget your camera on this hike.
The trail is located on the north hill of Larch Mountain. So the best time for hiking and waterfall photography is early morning and late afternoon. There isn’t much forest canopy in the middle third of the trail between Wahkeena Falls and Lemmons Viewpoint, which is also the most strenuous section of the trail. You probably want to avoid this segment during noon hours.
