May 25, 2012: Snow-capped mountain and fog in the background

On my way to Jasper, I encountered this thick layer of fog covering the entire town of Grande Cache. This town of 4000 residents is rich in coal mine and has a coal production plant at the north side of the townsite. A federal prison Grande Cache Institution is also located southwest to the townsite due to its remoteness in Canadian Rockies.

Grande Cache is the home of the Canadian Death Race and the gateway to the Willmore Wilderness Park. Other tourist attractions include Pierre Grey’s Lakes Provincial Park, Grande Cache Lake, Victor Lake, Sulfur Gates, etc. They are great locations for fishing, hiking, boating, and camping.
