Lemmons Viewpoint is 0.5 mile further up the Wahkeena Falls hiking trail. The viewpoint offers a panoramic view of Columbia River Gorge along Multnomah Falls scenic area. This landmark is in memory of Keith L. Lemmons, a firefighter, who lost his life fighting fire in August 1983. As a native Oregonian, he was proud of the beauty of his state and was dedicated to the protection and preservation of this area for future generations.

July 9, 2012: On clear days, you can see Beacon Rock from Lemmons Viewpoint. Beacon Rock is an 848ft (258m) rock on the north bank of Columbia River. It was named by Lewis and Clark in 1805; they originally referred to it as Beaten Rock, later as Beacon Rock. The rock was later known as Castle Rock, until 1916 when its name was changed back to Beacon Rock. The rock is located in Beacon Rock State Park of Washington.

Hiking Trail Map & Driving Direction

Traveling east on Columbia River Interstate Highway 84 from Portland, take Exit 28. At the furcation, continue east along Historic Columbia River Highway to Wahkeena Picnic Area / Parking Lot. Hike 0.4 mile to Wahkeena Falls, and then continue for another 0.5 mile to Lemmons Viewpoint. Fairy Falls is only 0.3 mile further up Lemmons Viewpoint.
