Review: Multnomah Falls Hiking Trail
Multnomah Falls is located next to Columbia River Highway 84, about 38 miles east of Portland, Oregon. The hiking trail is very short, suitable for all ages.
Visitors can reach the base of this world famous waterfalls with only a few steps from the parking lots. With another 0.2mi hike, the trail leads to Benson Footbridge, a 45-foot (14 m)-long footbridge that allows visitors to cross 105 feet (32 m) above the lower cascade. The trail continues for another 1.2mi to a platform at the top of the upper falls where visitors get a bird’s-eye view of the Columbia Gorge. The footbridge is named for Simon Benson, who financed the bridge’s construction in 1914 by Italian stonemasons.
Most photographers stay at the base viewpoint for the iconic shots of Multnomah Falls with people standing on Benson Footbridge. This location is also great for wedding ceremony, banquet and photography. In fact, the movie Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn is filmed here for certain scenes as well!
