According to Lunar calendar (農曆, 舊曆), Chinese New Year also known as Spring Festival (春節, 春节) falls on Sunday, January 26, 2009—The Year of The Ox (牛年). People start new year celebration two days prior to Chinese New Year’s Day; ie, New Year’s Mini-Eve at work (小除夕) and New Year’s Grand-Eve with family (大除夕). All family members go home, get together and have New Year’s Eve Dinner (团圆饭). Then the celebration continues for another 15 days, ending on Lantern Festival (元宵節, 元宵节) where crowds gather together with lantern extravaganza (燈會, 灯会).
