World Biggest Star Planet - Order of Magnitude

Ok, so how big is our planet Earth? :-? I mean, compare to other planets… In the following pictures, you’ll start to appreciate how small earth is!!!

planet
In solar system, Earth > Venus > Mars > Mercury > Pluto

Note: On August 24, 2006, Pluto loses its status as a planet, declared by International Astronomical Union’s (IAU), after several years of debate since its discovery in 1930. What’s the definition of a planet? Read more here.

planet
Jupiter > Saturn > Uranus ≈ Neptune > Earth
So, earth is the 5th biggest planet in the solar system. ;-)

planet
The sun is way bigger than earth, yet it looks so small in the sky. ;-)

planet
Ok, let’s get serious. There are stars bigger than Sun. :-o For examples, Sirius, Pollux, Arcturus…etc. Jupiter is only 1 pixel in the picture and the Earth is invisible in this scale.

planet
Ok, how about stars bigger than Arcturus? You bet! Antares > Betelgeuse > Aldebaran > Rigel > Arcturus. Our sun is only 1 pixel in this scale and Jupiter is invisible now!!! Holy cow, imagine that the Earth is sitting beside Antares. Earth will be totally torched and the water evaporates. :-o

Hold on…there ARE stars even bigger than Antares. See this video.

In a universe so large let’s never think more of ourself than necessary, while also remembering that although we are very small in physical size compared to giants such as Antares, just as the moon reflects the light of the sun.. so to the stars reflect the light of love that comes from the human spirit.

Never forget how critical our role is, to love and be loved unconditionally.. knowing that we are all dust in the solar winds!

I’m sure there are even bigger stars waiting for discovery. By the time we see them, it’s already billions of light years old. Who knows exactly what’s happening to them RIGHT NOW when the light we see in the sky is that old??!!

    Big enough for what Masoon?

  13. Phil, quoting douglas adams said,

    August 15, 2006

The Total Perspective Vortex derives its picture of the whole Universe on the principle of extrapolated matter analyses. To explain - since every piece of matter in the Universe is in some way affected by every other piece of matter in the Universe, it is in theory possible to extrapolate the whole of creation - every sun, every planet, their orbits, their composition and their economic and social history from, say, one small piece of fairy cake.

The man who invented the Total Perspective Vortex did so basically in order to annoy his wife. Trin Tragula - for that was his name - was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher or, as his wife would have it, an idiot.

And she would nag him incessantly about the utterly inordinate amount of time he spent staring out into space, or mulling over the mechanics of safety pins, or doing spectrographic analyses of pieces of fairy cake.

    ‘’Have some sense of proportion!'’
she would say, sometimes as often as thirty-eight times in a single day. And so he built the Total Perspective Vortex - just to show her.

And into one end he plugged the whole of reality as extrapolated from a piece of fairy cake, and into the other end he plugged his wife: so that when he turned it on she saw in one instant the whole infinity of creation and herself in relation to it.

To Trin Tragula’s horror, the shock completely annihilated her brain; but to his satisfaction he realized that he had proved conclusively that if life is going to exist in a Universe of this size, then the one thing it cannot afford to have is a sense of
    proportion.

    Douglas Adams was an amazing vouyer with an articulate way of expressing himself (I wish he would have written more). I wonder what he would have done with String theory, todays prevailing Physics ‘theory of everything’ that says the entire universe is in fact composed of tiny strings [perhaps they total 42] the 11 dimentions (our 3 spacial dimentions plus time {or as Dr Sues would say “11 this is something new I wish I had 11 too}), “M” theory and the uncanny connection to what Jewish mysticism said about the universe’s makeup some 2000 years ago being made up of 10 spheres and strings of energy (+1 made up of time) 6 of which “fell” (or as todays scientests will tell you, shrunk) {Did I really call Douglas Adams A Vouyer?}

Or do you actually have to know a physical start and end of everything by saying this is that way, and this is the time of year. Doesn’t there be an outer view and inner view at any giving time showing are designated position in our orbit? If so where do you get it and /or how do you get that order of operations to senses?

This of course is absurd. There is nothing more densely packed than my garage. Hence, the universe began the size of my garage plus one atom.” :-"

The biggest star Hershels Barnard star was beaten up from the largest to the fourth. So now the new biggest star is VV Cephei. The red one has the biggest diameter ever measured at a star. If it would be at the place of the Sun, it would include the orbit of Saturn. Its capacity is nearly 20 billion times that of the Sun.

can any one tell me about the movement of the planets

  97. movement of planets said,

everything that has mass has gravity. our sun have a lot of mass, so they have enough gravity to have planets. planets also have gravity to go against the sun’s gravitational pull. otherwise, the sun’s gravity would pull the planets into it. this is called inertia. both the planet and the suns gravity causes the planet to go around the sun, but the planets are veeeerry slowly falling into the sun. this is off the top of my head so if anything is wrong then, oh well…

Ok the title kills me “Worlds biggest star” there is NO worlds biggest star. There is NO star on this world. The universes biggest known star would be appropriate. Also, the name for our sun isn’t the sun, it’s Sol.

:-? I beleive that we shouldn’t try to look at this in a way of proportion, but in the sense of meening to ourselves and others around us. I meen, does it matter if there is a star trillions of lightyears away that is 20-odd thousand times bigger than earth. Yes a very amazing concept to ponder, but this is just the beggining of it. We should focus on reaching these stars in the future to further our reasearch abilities and then we will be able to find these stars usefull to us. But as of now, I find no meening for them other than the entertainment of simpletons.[-(

Hey Chris, dont you think what a black hole is? There is a part in the exact center of the black hole with infinite density, thus having infinite gravity; thats how it even sucks in even light energy. It may be that the universe was made from one enormous black hole that became so big it bursted and shot matter every where. Now that is very debate-able because black holes don’t emit energy or matter because of its gravity. So maybe there is another type of space cataclyptic event that is related to black holes that hold matter and energy and shot it all in every direction, but that will take emense amounts of energy that doesn’t even exist. Further I just realized that black holes take matter and the matter can’t come back. If black holes have “white holes” pop up anywhere else in the universe than the object would just desintegrate for the opposite of infinite attraction is infinite push, thus the object would be one fast comet like an electron. If an exact opposite popped out of no where it would either be sucked in the black hole and if one was to pop out and escape it would cancel out the original thus shrinking its mass. This all is just to prove that some super natural occurence has occured and scientist haven’t realized it. They might find out at the end of time, maybe not; the world will end on June 6, 2012 at 6:06 Pm. *-:)*-:):^o:-?:-?:-?

Deneb, of Cygnus, is big enough to fit our whole solar system within. Scales of biological entities trying to understand beyond geological contexts to cosmological celestial dome phenomena demands some effort or imagination.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the whole universe (as large as it is) was created just so the planet Earth could exist. If that were truly the case then our exploration of space (to look for another planet to exploit and lay waste to) would be a futile waste of time and money which means that we would then have to focus on how to look after our Earth and everything on it in order to preserve what we have. Now wouldn’t that just be awful, to think that we would actually have to stay and clean up our own back yard instead of polluting it and moving on only to pollute another back yard and move on etc etc etc.

Well, please tell us why “the Creator” dont even know about solar systems. Ever read the bible? and don’t give me the “he left it for us to find out” BS either, it’s simply just not good enough. Religion don’t belong in space, it’s manmade.

PS: good scale! left out My Cephei tho :P

    Hi

The solar system is too big that it is difficult for us to determine its length and still now new planets are being discoverd in the solar system. I wonder when a telescope will be built to see the end of the solar system, i think i will take too long to discover it at as whole.
