Scouts Canada: 40th Marpole Div. MacMillan Space Centre Trip

These pictures were taken during the trip to HR MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver in September 2002—to be exact, about one week after I officially joined scouting!!! I’m not kidding. I was in the process of cubs leader training and still didn’t know much about those cubs. But Brian (the principal cubs leader at 40th Marpole) threw me into this MacMillan project and told me, “Don’t worry. All you need to do is enjoy yourself and have fun. We all did this before, me and the other leader. Just enjoy and have fun.” OMG, I hoped I didn’t hear him wrong. I had to look after a whole bunch of kids that I didn’t even know their names.
I’m not joking! Plus, the trip was one-night long and I had to sleep there with the kids at MacMillan. I told myself, “Oh boy, I hope I won’t lose a kid overnight.”
Well, of course, I survived my first scouting test—I didn’t lose a kid.
Those kids knew what they were doing. This MacMillan trip is an annual event for cubs in Vancouver District (or Pacific Spirit Area which includes Cambie division, Dunbar division, Kerrisdale division, Kitsilano division, Marpole division, etc). Anyway, for some it wasn’t their first time joining this trip. It turned out the kids were quite manageable, although it would be much better if I knew those cubs a bit before. It was an unforgettabe experience for me. I didn’t offer as much help to the kids as I thought I should. But hey, it was my first week at scouts, ok? If I go to this trip again, I’m sure I can do better. Unfortunately, I come to University of Alberta to study dentistry the following year, so…
