The Art & Science of Happiness — Laughter the Best Medicine
Well, laughter is often cited as the best kind of medicine to counter sadness, and a new kind of yoga has sprouted up around that idea. It’s called ‘Laughter Yoga’ and it promises practitioners more peace of mind as they tap into the human propensity to laugh. Participants gather and take part in gentle stretching, breathing, and laughter exercises. Playfulness, fun, and positive energy are encouraged.
No jokes are used, participants laugh for the joy and benefits of laughing. Laughter helps with stress, by discharging physical and emotional tension. It improves immune function, provides an internal massage, helps with muscle relaxation, and yields other cardio-vascular benefits. Remember…people who laugh together work together better! … To learn more about Laughter Clubs check out the CBC video clip on happiness that was taped on August 3, 2006.
