Whoa, I wasn’t aware the BC government doesn’t pay PSA testing for screening prostate cancer in men, while pap smears (for cervical cancer) and mammograms (for breast cancer) are fully paid for. Interesting issue…
Perhaps the problem for not funding the PSA test is its sensitivity and specificity. Not sure. Have to do some medical literature search first, before commenting on this.
VICTORIA — Sex discrimination is being claimed over the B.C. government’s refusal to fund a test to screen men for prostate cancer.

PSA test, or prostate specific antigen, is used as a marker for screening and monitoring prostate cancer.A B.C. human rights tribunal began yesterday with Victoria lawyer Laurie Armstrong claiming it’s discriminatory to force men like him to pay for the PSA test, a screening test for prostate cancer, when women aren’t charged for Pap smears or mammograms.
Men must pay a $30 fee to have a PSA blood test performed. Doctors most often rely on a rectal examination to look for prostate cancer.
