Dentistry & Hygiene Rotations in McLennan, Alberta, Canada
McLennan Dentistry Rotation Journals
Below are my daily journal entries for our dentistry rotations in McLennan, Alberta. Two dental hygiene students (Seema & Brittany) and two dental students (Kevin & Sam) went together to explore this wild countryside. All of us come from different ethnic groups: East Indian, French, English, and Chinese. What a bizarre combination. Gonna be fun.The Crews

Destination Map: McLennan, Alberta, Canada
On our way to McLennan on January 21, 2007, we left Edmonton at 4pm and stopped by Pita Pit in Oliver Square Center to get our dinner. Then we passed by St. Alberta → Westlock → Barrhead → Swan Hills → High Prairie → McLennan. It took us 4.5 hours to get to McLennan from Edmonton by car. It was a smooth ride initially when there was still a bit of sunlight. By the time we got to Barrhead, the sky was totally dark and driving condition became undesirable. The route is two-way road (one in each direction) without any barrier in the center of the road. As such, you get blind by the headlight from incoming traffic, and it is barely possible to see the lines demarcating the lanes. When we reached Swan Hills, the road condition became even worse. The lines were partially covered by snow!!!According to McLennan local people, the above route was very dangerous, especially driving at night. So, on our way back to Edmonton, we followed their advice to take Highway #43. Most of the time, the route is divided; ie, there is a barrier between opposite traffic. Plus, the road has two lanes in each direction, allowing you to pass over slow cars more easily. And so, we drove west from McLennan to Donnelly, and then turned south to Highway #43, passing Valleyview → Little Smoky → Fox Creek → Whitecourt → Onoway (what a strange town name) → Spruce Groove → Edmonton.
