Finally the tickets for Beijing 2008 Olympic Game [北京2008年奥运会] Opening Ceremony [开幕式] and Closing Ceremony [闭幕式] are on sale now. But wait…the sale is only for Chinese residents at this moment. 
Furthermoe, 75% of the tickets will go to Chinese people. Anyway, the sale is not exactly a sale. It’s a lottery. You have to “Enter to Win”. Wow…this is the first in the olympic history. You reserve a ticket now, in a hope to get the ticket eventually if the Chinese Olympic organization picks you at the end. Here is how the ticketing system works:

Currently the ticket prices for opening ceremony and closing ceremony both held in National Stadium are listed below. Price goes as low as $20!!! 
Although it’s low, who knows if there is a differential fee (ie, higher prices) for foreign buyers later on…. 
China is well-known for imposing a differential fee for non-residents.

National Stadium (aka “Bird Nest”) for Opening & Closing Ceremonies
Tickets have gone on sale for next year’s Olympic Games in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
More than seven million tickets are available to the public, of which about 75% will go to Chinese residents.Organisers say they have worked to keep prices down in order to make the Olympics affordable for everyone.
Fifty-eight percent of all tickets will cost $12 (£6) or less, organisers say. Some tickets priced at about $1 will be reserved for students.
Tickets will be sold via the internet and at 1,000 branches of the Bank of China. Officials said they hoped to make $140m (£70m) from sales.
One person, one ticket
Officials have limited sales for the popular opening and closing ceremonies to a one person, one ticket basis, ruling out group or block bookings.
For the more popular sporting events, buyers will be allowed a maximum of two tickets.

(BEIJING, April 15) — More than seven million very affordable tickets are now on sale for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) announced today. About 75% of the tickets will be sold domestically and the rest will be available to the overseas public.
Late last year, BOCOG announced that ticket prices for the Games will be in keeping with its efforts to host Games accessible to the broadest spectrum of people.
Anticipating a high level of demand, BOCOG Executive Vice President and Secretary General Wang Wei reiterated that the ticketing process will be conducted in the most efficient, fair and open manner possible and will follow internationally-accepted practices.
BOCOG will initiate a three-phased ticketing process for domestic sales. In each phase, residents on the Chinese mainland will be able to order tickets through the official ticketing website (http://tickets.beijing2008.com), calling the BOCOG ticketing call center (+86-10-952008), or through designated Bank of China branches.
For overseas sales, the process will be determined in each country and territory by its National Olympic Committee and its ticketing agent.

BEIJING (AFP) - The mad scramble for Beijing Olympics tickets began Sunday with organisers putting on sale more than seven million seats for the world’s premier sporting event.
“I am happy to say that tickets for the 2008 Olympic Games go on sale globally today,” Wang Wei, the executive vice president and secretary general of the Beijing Olympic organising committee, told a press conference here.
“We will ensure that the ticket sale takes place in an efficient, fair and open manner.”
Nearly 60 percent of saleable tickets will be reserved for residents of China while the rest of the world will get 25 percent, said Rong Jun, director of the organising committee’s ticketing department.
The remainder will be reserved for schools, college students and young athletes as part of an educational programme, he said.
Overseas sales will be managed by individual National Olympic Committees.
“There are more than 200 countries with National Olympic Committees who are eligible to apply for tickets,” he said. “After they get their allocation, it is up to them to determine how they distribute their tickets.”
The 60,000 seats up for sale for the August 8, 2008 opening ceremony at the National Stadium, known as the ‘Bird’s Nest,’ are expected to be among the most sought-after during the two-week games.
Some 40 percent of those are reserved for Chinese, who can apply for just one ticket each for the opening ceremony and for the August 24 closing ceremony.
Restrictions are also imposed on the number of tickets each person can buy for main draw events like athletics, swimming, gymnastics, basketball and football.
“To offer the largest number of people the opportunity to watch the Olympic Games, BOCOG will limit the number of tickets each individual may purchase,” the organising committee, known by its initials BOCOG, said in a statement.
For big-draw events, individuals get just two tickets each while they can purchase three to five tickets for other events, depending on demand.
Chinese residents can make reservations through the organising committee ticketing website http://tickets.beijing2008.com, Bank of China outlets or by calling the BOCOG ticketing call centre.
Organisers said high-tech methods had been employed to deter forgers and that each ticket would be identified with individual purchasers.
Ticket transfers can be made, but only through an application process involving registering a change of name with organisers.
