International Dental Student Conference Vancouver Whistler
IDSC 2006 will be held in Vancouver on January 13-15 (Friday-Sunday). Woooooo, Friday 13th! The good thing about this dentistry conference is that all the third and fourth year dental students at University of Alberta get that Friday off!!! How nice! This time only!! Today the Associate Chair of Dentistry, Dr. Kent Gibb, announced that due to a large number of UofA dentistry students attending this exciting event, lectures and clinics will be cancelled just for the Friday the Thirteen. 
As far as I know, UBC dental students have classes that day still. 
I’ve never been to any idsc though. During my first year, idsc 2004 was held in Montreal (University of Montreal), then idsc 2005 in Saskatoon (University of Saskatchewan). This year it’s in Vancouver (University of British Columbia) with the Friday skiing event in Whistler Blackcomb. If idsc 2006 is held later in the year, I’ll probably go. But it’s in January. I’m going back to Vancouver this Xmas. That just isn’t economical for me to go back to Vancouver again for a 3-day event. Too early to see my family again. 
I’ve been to Sheraton Hotel once when I volunteered for BC Lung Association’s “Climb the Wall for Clean Air” marathon event. It’s a nice building. It’s also the tallest building in Downtown Vancouver. Although I was inside the tallest building in that volunteering event, I didn’t get to see the aerial view because I was inside! Sheraton Hotel actually has 3 buildings, one of which is the tallest. I have a feeling that the conference wiill not be held in the tallest building, but one of the other two shorter buildings. Anyway, I would rather have the conference held in Pan Pacific Hotel (or Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre), though. I’ve been there once for Canadian Congress of Neurological Sciences conference and presented a poster there. The food was so tasty there. The salads and desserts were phenomenal, the best I have so far. Too bad, I didn’t take any picture when attending that conference. It was a fun experience, though. I wonder where idsc 2007 will be held…
