Some people think it’s a pink lady face. However, I think it’s a “female” transformer. Seriously, it looks like the transformer logo in pinky style. Don’t you agree?

A human faced spider is pictured in this photo taken on September 25, 2007. The novel spider, which seems to have a girl’s face, was discovered in Hami, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday and has aroused a great deal of interest of local residents.

The horn size of male Alpine ibex – a cousin of the mountain goat residing in the Alps – correlates with genetic diversity and reproductive success.

Bigger horns = better genes

Size matters. At least, it does to an alpine ibex.

According to a team of international researchers, mature, male alpine ibex demonstrate a correlation between horn growth and genetic diversity. Past research studies have shown that greater genetic diversity correlates with a greater chance of survival.

“The size of the horns reliably advertises the genetic quality of the ibex - and the bigger, the better,” said David Coltman, an evolutionary geneticist at the University of Alberta and co-author of the study, which was published this month in the journal Molecular Ecology.

The researchers found that horn sizes among younger ibex (one- to six-years-old) are relatively similar regardless of their genetic diversity. However, once the ibex mature to the age when they begin competing for reproductive mates (seven to 12), horn length varies according to genetic diversity: the greater the diversity, the greater the length of the horns.

Corpse Flower, aka Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum)—the stinkiest plant on earth, is booming this winter in London due to warm weather. Is it stinkier than Stinky To-Fu?

Unseasonably warm weather may have tricked the world’s smelliest plant into blooming in the middle of the northern hemisphere winter, botanists at the Eden Project where the native of Sumatra is housed, told Reuters.

The warmth of 2006 and mild winter to date have encouraged the Titan Arum or Corpse Flower into a phenomenal growth spurt and into flower — an event that usually happens only once every six to nine years.

“The Titan, standing at 164 cms tall is now giving off a revolting stink,” said curator Don Murray. “It is a cross between rotten cheese, dog poo and something dead.”

“Tonight the flowers will be in full bloom — as will the stench — and that will last through Tuesday and Wednesday. But by Thursday it will have started to die back,” he told Reuters from the project in Cornwall 220 miles southwest of London.
