The following pictures were taken on December 29, 2004. I went back to Vancouver last Christmas to visit my family, but back to Edmonton on Boxing Day (December 26). How early! Indeed, it was a short visit. Only 7 days. The reason was that I needed to stock up food for my next term. There are usually boxing day sales on food too in some stores. Buy those yammy goodies cheap and stock them up. This Christmas I’ve decided not to do this again, so 2 whole weeks in Vancouver. I guess, I can stock up food there instead. But, it will be kinda heavy…hmm maybe way too heavy, I shoud say, for my luggage. I usually buy a lot. I’ve been thinking about maximizing my luggage allowance; ie, 2 pieces of big luggages plus 2 pieces of carry-ons.

Last year marked the Alberta’s Centennial Celebration—its 100th birthday for joining the confederation. You can see the banner “100″ hanging in the front of the Alberta Provincial Legislative Building. Don’t know if there will be different decorations hanging on the building this year. I’ll check it out when I come back.

Using English version of Windows is definitely a bit difficult to write in Chinese without using Chinese conversion software. Take my surname for example. How do I put a Chinese character ” Tsai ” on html page? Copy & Paste doesn’t work, as it will show up as a question mark ” ? “. So, how do I write ” 才 ” here? I just did, didn’t I? It turns out that the html code for 才 is ” & #25165; “. Now you know how I get my family name shown on a web page.

This year is a strange one. First of all, the weather is abnormally warm. Temperature runs in the range of 0ºC to 15ºC. Usually it should be the other way round, -15ºC to oºC!!! Second, we usually have a few days of snow in late September and then lots of snow by mid-October. This year we have only two days of snow so far this winter. This is…unbelievable.

Hmm…I’ve only been to Edmonton for 2 years. Maybe I’m not the right person to comment on Edmonton westher. Can it be that the previous 2 years were abnormally cold and this year is normal? My intuition tells me this year is definitely abnormal, not normal…

Warm weather should be good, though I like the snow. It’s more convenient for my patients, especially the seniors, to come to UofA dental clinic. The ground won’t be slippery, and the traffic won’t be congested.

The following pictures were taken on December 4, 2004. Obviously I didn’t feel like studying for Musculoskeletal midterm exam , so decided to take photos of the Alberta Legislative Building instead. It was snowing outside that day, so the pictures seem a bit blurred. The interior of the building was decorated with Christmas display. I think this year I’ll take picture of this building again to see if there is anything different. I haven’t seen the fountain being operating in front of the building yet, though I would really like to see it before my graduation from dentistry in year 2007. Anyone knows when the fountain is turned on exactly??? Drop me a note if you know!
