Royal Canadian Mint has an old facility in Ottawa and a new one in Winnipeg. The manufacture plant in Winnipeg, designed by the famous Franco-Manitoban architect Étienne Gaboury, was officially opened in 1976. Besides Canadian currency, the Winnipeg facility also produce coinages for 40 countries around the world; eg, Norway, Iceland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, etc.

In March 2012 the Mint decided to cease the production of pennies. The final penny was minted at the Winnipeg plant in the morning of May 4, 2012.
