October 7, 2012: Saskatoon Mountain during autumn sunrise. The lookout platform at the mountain top offers southwest views of the prairie. On clear days such as this, Rockies Mountains can be seen. :D

This is my second time visiting Saskatoon Mountain Natural Area, about 4 miles east of Town Beaverlodge on Highway 43. Last time was in winter; this time is in autumn during Thanksgiving long weekend. :D

In the past Saskatoon Mountain served as a radar base for the United States Air Force 1952-1962 and Canadian Forces Station Beaverlodge 1963-1988. The base was closed permanently in August 1988. That’s a brief history. Now the mountain serves as a recreational area for picnicking, cross country skiing, front country hiking, hunting (primitive weapons only – shotgun, muzzle loader & archery), ATV/OHV/quad riding (on-site), and wildlife/bird viewing.

October 7, 2012: Close-up view of a snow-capped mountain peak in distance. Not sure about the name of that mountain peak. Anyone knows?
