Saskatoon Mountain in Winter

Saskatoon Mountain Natural Area, used to be a military radar base, is an island of foothills forest surrounded by agricultural lands. The park offers hiking trails, a picnic area and magnificent views of the Rocky Mountains; the site is easily accessible by car off Highway 43. Check map below for exact driving direction.

November 20, 2011: Saskatoon Mountain is covered with snow in winter. There is an outlook platform at the mountain top, offering southwest views of the prairie. On a clear day, you might be able to see Rockies Mountains.

November 20, 2011: It was a very cold morning, -30 celsius with wind chill. The tree branches were all covered with frosted snow. Very tranquil and beautiful.

Recreation activities include cross country skiing, front country hiking, hunting (primitive weapons only – shotgun, muzzle loader & archery), ATV/OHV/quad riding (on-site), wildlife/bird viewing.

Driving along Highway 43 (either from Grande Prairie or Beaverlodge) and turn north to Range Road 92 for 5km.
