Free Outdoor Public Ice Skating on Frozen St. Vital Park Duck Pond & Totem Pole Island in Winter - City of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada | SAM TSAI . COM

December 27, 2012: Figure skating, anyone?!?! ò.ó

St. Vital Park, located on the east bank of the Red River in southern Winnipeg, is one of the most beautiful city parks and is a perfect place for family get-togethers and recreational sports. In summer, numerous hiking trails, picnic tables, and a playground are available. In winter, the duck pond with a totem pole island becomes a giant outdoor skating rink. Cross country skiing tracks, toboggan slides, and snowshoeing trails are also available. Rock Garden and Duck Pond with a totem pole island make this park a popular venue for wedding / engagement photography, portrait shots, and family group pictures.

The park hours of operation is 7:30am – 10pm year round. Use of park facilities and parking space is FREE. No rental on-site, so bring your own skates, skis, and toboggans (snow tubes?).

December 27, 2012: This outdoor ice rink can be very slippery on a sunny day. Fortunately, it was cloudy when I was there, so ice walking was easier.
