Maligne Lake

Maligne Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies. Located in Jasper National Park, the lake is famed for the colour of its water, the surrounding peaks, the three glaciers visible from the lake (Charlton, Unwin and Maligne Glaciers), and of course the famous Spirit Island in the middle of Maligne Lake. Spirit Island—one of the most photographed locations in the world—is 14 kilometres up the lake, and there is no direct road or trail access. Tour boats or private, non-motorized craft are the only means of reaching Spirit Island.

The lake is a popular spot for sport fishing (rainbow trout and brook trout), kayaking, canoeing, hiking, camping, etc. Parks Canada maintains two camping sites, accessible only by canoe, at Fisherman’s Bay and Coronet Creek.

Malign Lake is also one of the great spots in Jasper National Park for milky way viewing.

Zajac Ranch

Zajac Ranch is a very nice ranch in Mission, BC. It holds several camp and horse-riding activities throughout the year, mainly for children with serious illness and chronic disabilities. I had an opportunity to visit this ranch this August, leaving me with a very good impression.

Rolley Lake Falls

After visiting Zajac Ranch, I dropped by Rolley Lake Provincial Park to see the waterfalls. Both the ranch and the park are close by each other and on the west side of Stave Lake. Since I’ve travelled this far, I might as well go hiking to see Rolley Lake Falls. :D Check the map below for direction. I found out the trail head to the waterfalls was closer to the camp site than to the visitors parking. If you start at the visitors parking, you have to walk the full length of lake shore to reach the trail head of the waterfalls.
