Kakwa Falls on Thanksgiving Long Weekend 2007 - Kakwa Wildland Park, Grande Prairie, Alberta | SAMTSAI.COM

October 8, 2007: After 2.5 hours of driving on forest road and 1 hour of ATV quadding, we finally reached this spectacular view of Kakwa Falls.

During autumn 2007 Thanksgiving long weekend, I was invited to join people from Valleyview Emmanuel Baptist Church for an ATV trip to Kakwa Falls. I was at Pastor Keith’s home for Thanksgiving dinner the night before, and he asked me to go. I said sure, even though I didn’t know exactly where we were going!! All I heard from him was something “quack quack”?!?! ò.ó I was new in Valleyview. The whole Peace Country Area was an uncharted terriroty to me back then. I didn’t even have a car to explore! Well, I thought since it was an excursion, it should be fun. I’m glad I went; it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. Kakwa Falls is located in such a remote area next to Willmore Wildness Park that, when I think of it now, the trip was probably the last and only chance for me. I’m grateful for the church’s invitation. I’ll definitely go there again if another opportunity arises. I’ll be more prepared since now I know what the trip is actually involved!!! :p

Abraham Lake in Autumn

While driving east on David Thompson Highway 11 from Saskatchewan Crossing toward Nordegg, I passed by this big hill overlooking Abraham Lake. The autumn colour was so beautiful, so I decided to take a photo. You won’t miss this hill; it’s the first big downhill if you travel east from Saskatchewan Crossing. There are a lot of campgrounds nearby in this Kootenay Plains Provincial Recreation Area.
