Grande Prairie Full Moon

January 9 is the first full moon in year 2012, which means…in two weeks it will be Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year, Spring Festival, or the first day of spring according to the lunar calendar). It will be the Year of Dragon on January 23, 2012. :D

On a clear day, this full moon will appear very big near the horizon, making it a “Werewolf Moon”. Year 2012 is a special year because there are thirteen full moons, whereas most years have only 12 full moons with one per month. The extra full moon in year 2012 takes place in August, with the second full moon called “Blue Moon”. There is a saying “Once In A Blue Moon” which means “a rare occurrence”.
